Why BOTSO?
BOTSO BROTHERS believe our youth have to be inspired(led), not motivated(pushed), to
envision and maximize their potential. BOTSO establishes goals and incentives for our
youth to work toward in developing their own positive values. BOTSO “takes on” the
responsibility of providing youth opportunities and adventures they would not have normally
had the chance to experience. More important BOTSO introduces youth to men who have ...
“been there done that.” They serve as “guides” to the youth and watch over their “paths
and journeys”, and help them in “times of confusion and uncertainty.”
What Does A BOTSO BROTHER Do?
A BOTSO BROTHER is a man who is a “Soul Model,”(not role model) to youth. BOTSO
believes youth should “model” the soul(character, morals, principles) of a man and not his
“role”(job, position, title). A BOTSO Brother contributes his “Time, Dime and Mind” in
commitment and sacrifice for the well-being of his community through active “face-to-face”
involvement with its youth. Our motto is: “If you talk the talk, you got to walk the walk.”
BOTSO takes pride in forming “alliances of co-operations” with many area programs,
organizations and institutions whose missions are to serve the varied needs of our
community youth.

BOTSO uses a “one-to-many” or “many-to-one” approach. ONE BOTSO Brother can
address the concerns of a “group” of youth. On the other hand, a “group” of BOTSO
Brothers may serve ONE youth by providing him multiple options and outlooks. (Note: One-
to-one mentoring is not a function of BOTSO as an organization. However, BOTSO
Brothers are urged to “volunteer” their services, talents and expertise where their heart
leads them, the needs arise, and time permits).
